Das Waldmurmeltier ist ein nur in Nordamerika vorkommender Verwandter des Alpenmurmeltiers. Für die deutschen Übersetzungen war seit dem Beginn der Zeitschrift Micky Maus im Jahre 1951 bis 1988 Erika Fuchs verantwortlich.Der Gruppenname Fähnlein Fieselschweif kommt erstmals in den Geschichten „Kampf um Goldmedaillen“ (MM 28/1963; Original: „Medaling around“ in WDC 261 6/62) und „Die Posten-Prüfung“ (MM 37/1964; Original „Beach Boy“ in WDC 276 9/63) vor.:[1.a] Fähnlein ist der Diminutiv von Fahne. Der Begriff wurde im Mittelalter zur Bezeichnung von Unterformationen eines Landsknechtsregiments verwendet, die sich um eine Fahe scharte und findet später wieder Verwendung bei den Wandervögeln, den Pfadfindern und beim Deutschen Jungvolk. Fähnlein kommt erstmals mit Bezug auf die Pfadfindergruppe in Entenhausen in der Geschichte „Das große Suchen“ als „… unseren Fähnlein nicht passiert“ vor (Micky Maus (MM) 23/1960; Original: „Lost in the black forest“ in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories (WDC) Nr. 227 8/59).:[1.b] Fieselschweif ist ein Kompositum aus Wiesel und Schweif, das für eine in Entenhausen übliche Alliteration verändert wurde. Vereinzelt taucht in frühen Heften der Name Fähnlein Wieselschweif auf (beispielsweise „Der Fischerlauf“ in MM 8/66; Original „Duck out of luck“ in WDC 294 3/65 und „Geheimnis des schwarzen Kastens“ in MM 16-19/66; Original: „The swamp of no return“ in Uncle Scrooge 57 5/65).”
